New Years Eve Eve update.

Didnt have as much time today but I've managed to get everything pretty much done now. Drivers door is sorted, side trim all removed and the back bumper and boot seals are off. It's funny to see the car with the old wheels on again, I'd forgotten what a big difference the white Enkei's make!

There were a couple of minor frustrations today, firstly a bolt that seems to have stripped its thread or something on the (extreeemely ugly) exhaust heat shield, so I cant fully remove it. It also took a large chunk out of my knuckle at one point. Ouch.
I'm thinking of removing it permanently as it would be much nicer to see the exhaust through the bumper, but I need to check if this is possible without the heat from the exhaust melting the bumper.... I'm hoping that because I'm switching to a fibreglass bumper it might be ok...

The second minor thing is that the rear spoiler is proving pretty well stuck down! After removing all the bolts and a bit of gentle heave-ho its still firmly on there. I was pushed for time when i got round to it so I'll have a proper go at it next time.

Aside from them bits, everything else went very smoothly and still no signs of any nasties in the grot department. I'm planning on giving everything a good clean at the weekend before the little fella gets picked up on monday.

Isn't it too cold for working outside?! What's the plan for bodywork and paint? Same colour again (was it a standard colour before or has it been resprayed?). All looks rust free - is it a recent import?

The fibreglass bumper will be OK with the heat but the paint may yellow / discolour with the heat, so some small or cut away sheild may be required.

New Beat book available in Japan;

Launched at the begining of December.

Good work with the updates

happy new year andy! hope you guys have had an awesome festive period!

aye - tis bloody freeezing quite literally - sadly we're back to work on monday and the little bugger is booked in on the 5th so i had to make the most of the dry weather! :P
the car's been (badly!) re-sprayed at some point in its past so the respray is to fix that mainly and to blend in the new bodykit etc. it wont be the normal festival red tho ;)
the car was brought over in 2004/5 i think and was always garaged by the previous owner - it was garaged last winter as well which probably helped.

ta for the tip about the shield, mylee on the forum made some suggestions about heat resistant sheets as well so i might look into them.

i've seen the new beat book, it looks good! like the look of the manga! shame the exchange rate is so terrible at the mo tho - rinkya must be loosing a lot of business!

have a top rest of 1/1!!
:D

Happy new year to you two too! (forgot that bit, sorry!)

Body kit as well?! Looking forward to seeing this, is there much more prep / strip down work to do?

The manga bit in the Enthu gudies are cool - I got the Cappuccino book at OPENcafe when we were in Japan in November; the Cappuccino is compared to the Lotus Elan, it looks like the Beat is compared to the Fiat X1/9!

Looks like you got most of the bits for your car when the exhange rate was good, I'll have to avoid the temptaion yahoo auctions for a while...

Enjoy the rest of your break.

hehe - yup, there's been a full FEELS kit sat in my mums conservatory for over a year waiting to be fitted! i think she is looking forward to it being fitted more than anyone ;)
it should all match up nicely with the hardtop. theres f&r bumpers, side skirts and new wide profile rear wings as well.

not much more stripping down to do really, gonna give everything a good clean at the weekend. a few bits will need taking back to bare metal, the bonnet particularly will need stripping and sealing as the resprayed paint has reacted to something on there.

LOL at the x1-9!! ahh well! could be worse i suppose!

the exchange rate is really painful at the mo. i think i'm going to wait until we next head over (hopefully this year some time!) and bag a load of stuff then.
that said, rinkya have just announced that the an now ship anything via container! 0_0! so you could actually buy a car through them! haha.... :D
