In mid-august it was time for Beat-chan's post-rebuild engine check-up. As well as making sure everything was ok with the engine department, dave also installed the rollcage, new pads all round, the new shocks and the lowering springs. It was a very different car that came home!
The new suspension set (mugen shocks with RS-R springs) up has really transformed things - the difference over the original 17 year old shocks is pretty amazing. The handling is improved and the car sits very nicely on the new springs too - I'd say the new set up has lowered the car by about 30mm all round. The ride is noticably firmer but certainly not too harsh - probably a bit softer than our DC5 actually...
One slight hitch that we came across with the rollcage was that the seat adaptors on the passenger side didnt fit with the rollcage, so the original passenger seat has gone back in for a little while, while we make some new adaptors for the cobras. We also need to adjust the seatbelts so they work better round the cage. I'm looking forward to getting everything sorted over the next few weeks now that we have a little more free time.
I've not had a chance to take some nice updated pics of the car yet, but heres some quickies of the cage in place:
